"Since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."
1 John 4:11
WHAT WE BELIEVE . . .
We believe the Bible was written by writers inspired by the Holy Spirit of God. It is the perfect treasure of God’s instructions. The Bible has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. The Bible reveals God’s principles and shall always remain relevant and true. The Good News of Jesus is the central message and the criterion for interpretation. 2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21, Hebrews 4:12, 1 Peter 1:25, Psalm 119:11, 89, 105, 140. Psalm 107:20, Isaiah 55:11.
We believe in one and only one living and true God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit but without division of nature, essence or being. We believe that the Father Almighty is the Maker of heaven and earth and is sovereign over all the universe. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only Son of God who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter promised by Jesus to enlighten the believer and the church in worship, evangelism and service. Genesis 1:1-2, Exodus 3:14, Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10, 44:6-8, 45:5 John 1:1, Hebrews 1;1-8, 2 Peter 1:1, John 10:30-33, Revelation 1:13-16, John 14:16-17, 26, John 15:26, John 16:7-14.
We believe that all people, men and women, were created by God in His own image to have fellowship with Him but became separated from God because all human beings have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Therefore, people cannot gain a right relationship with God through their own efforts. We believe that God has given each individual the free will to choose to respond to God through repentance and belief or to choose to reject God’s offer of love and forgiveness. Each individual person must make his or her own choice. Genesis 1:26-28, John 1:3, Isaiah 59:2 Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 2:15-16, Joshua 24:15, John 3:16-18, John 3:36.
We believe that Jesus Christ by his own blood, shed on the cross, has provided the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, God by His grace freely offers salvation to those who will believe in their hearts and confess with their mouth their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ. Salvation comes solely by the grace of God and no one has the opportunity to boast in their own works or efforts toward salvation Hebrews 9:1-28, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:21-25, Romans 10:9-10, John 14:6, Hebrews 12:2.
We believe that Baptism is an act of obedience symbolizing a person’s faith in a crucified, buried and risen Savior. Baptism is a public testimony of one’s belief in their heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead. As a public confession Baptism expresses publicly what a person has already experienced personally when that person committed their life to Jesus Christ. Baptism follows the example set by Jesus. Therefore, we believe that Baptism is best expressed by immersion. Mark 1:9, Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:38, Acts 18:8, Romans 10:9-10, Acts 16:25—34, Romans 6:1-4, Luke 23:40-43, Ephesians 4:20-24, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 3:7.
About the Priesthood of the Believer
We believe that as individuals created by God in His own image God has chosen that all of us who would believe in Him through Jesus would be built into a spiritual house and a holy priesthood. We believe that as a royal priesthood all believers have access to God through the One Mediator Jesus Christ. We are all called to serve Him as a priest through praise and service. 1 Peter 2:4-10, 1 Timothy 2:5, Hebrews 8:6, Hebrews 12:22-24, Hebrews 7:25, Hebrew 8:1-2
